Read your output out loud before you send it

This is the simplest and most consistently useful quality check in AI-assisted sales writing: before you send anything Claude or ChatGPT generated, read it out loud.

Why this works

AI-generated text often has a rhythm and cadence that reads fine on screen but sounds unnatural when spoken. Cold emails that sound overly formal. Follow-ups with transitions no human would actually use. Proposals with passive constructions that undermine confidence.

When you read it out loud and it sounds like something a robot wrote, your prospect will hear that too — even reading silently.

The three things to listen for

  • Unnatural phrasing: "I hope this message finds you well," "Please don't hesitate to reach out," "I wanted to circle back." These are AI tells. Delete them.
  • Passive voice: "It was agreed that" should be "we agreed that." "The benefits can be seen" should be "you'll see the benefits."
  • Sentences that don't sound like you. Your prospect knows how you normally communicate. If the email sounds like a different person, it creates a disconnect.

The iteration command

After reading, use this prompt to fix what you heard: "Rewrite this to sound more conversational and less like AI-generated text. I should be able to read it out loud comfortably. Remove any formal filler phrases and passive constructions. Keep the same message but make it sound human: [PASTE TEXT]"
