When you're in a high-stakes call and you get an objection you didn't expect, the quality of your response depends entirely on preparation. You can't think of the best answer under pressure. You have to already know it.
The evening before any significant call, spend 5 minutes on this: "I have a [CALL TYPE] call tomorrow with a [TITLE] at a [COMPANY TYPE]. What are the 3 most likely objections I'll face? For each: (1) the likely real concern underneath it, (2) a 2-sentence response that acknowledges and reframes, (3) the forward question that advances the conversation."
Reading a prepared objection response and being able to deliver it smoothly under pressure are different skills. Say each response out loud at least once before the call. The awkward pauses disappear.
Every time you encounter an objection you haven't prepared for, run the prompt above after the call. Over 3-6 months of doing this, you'll have a complete response bank for every objection you actually face. The preparation work compounds.
