Give AI a Character or Persona for Better Sales Writing

Generic sales writing sounds like AI. Sales writing that sounds like a real professional — specific, direct, human — converts better in every context: cold email, LinkedIn, proposals, and follow-ups.

The fastest way to close that gap: give AI a specific persona before you make your request. Not just "act as a sales rep" — that’s too generic. Be specific:

  • "You are a seasoned enterprise AE with 15 years in B2B software sales. You write to peers, not prospects. Your tone is direct and confident, not eager."
  • "You are a practitioner who has carried a quota. You hate corporate buzzwords. You write short sentences that get to the point."
  • "You are the VP of Sales at a mid-market SaaS company writing to the CFO of a prospect account."

The more specific the persona, the more the writing will reflect a real human perspective rather than a generic AI template. This technique is especially effective for cold email openers, LinkedIn posts, and executive summaries — any context where the writing needs to feel like a real person sent it.
