Clay raised $40M at a $1.25B valuation on the back of 6x growth, and the round says more about data tooling budgets than about Clay.
Investors pricing a data-enrichment company at $1.25B is a signal about where outbound budget is moving: toward the research layer rather than the sending layer.
Clay announced a $40 million pre-emptive Series B expansion on 22 January 2025, led by existing investor Meritech, at a $1.25 billion valuation. The company reported 6x growth during 2024 and more than 5,000 customers, naming OpenAI, Canva, Anthropic, Ramp and Rippling among them.
The round is an expansion of an existing Series B rather than a new one, and it was described as pre-emptive — raised without the company running a process. Meritech was already on the cap table.
