ChatGPT's Meetings plugin takes your call notes on macOS and writes the action items

Beta in the ChatGPT desktop app on macOS for Pro and Business users. It takes notes from what is said, then saves a summary with action items. Enterprise is coming.

Why this matters for sellers

Sellers already have note-takers. What they do not have is notes that arrive where the next piece of work happens. Your call notes are worth nothing until they become a follow-up email, a CRM update and an agreed next step, and all three of those get drafted in ChatGPT anyway. Putting the notes in the same window removes the copy-paste step, which is where detail actually goes missing. The catch is the one every note-taker has: a summary you did not read is a liability rather than a record, and an action item the tool invented will sit in your CRM looking exactly like one your buyer said out loud.

In plain English

A "plugin" here is a connector that runs inside ChatGPT rather than a separate app you install. "Beta" means OpenAI expects it to change and is not promising it works everywhere yet. "Action items" are the tool's guess at what somebody agreed to do, drawn from speech, which is where most note-taker errors come from. "Personalized summaries" is OpenAI's phrase, and OpenAI has not said what the personalisation is based on.

The short version: ChatGPT will now take your call notes on a Mac and suggest the follow-ups, and you still have to check that the follow-ups are the ones your buyer actually agreed to.

OpenAI launched a Meetings plugin for ChatGPT at DevDay on September 29, 2026. In OpenAI's own words it "takes notes for you based on what's said in the meeting and saves personalized summaries with action items." It is a plugin inside the ChatGPT desktop app rather than a separate note-taker, so the summary lands in the same place you already draft the follow-up.

Announced: September 29, 2026, at OpenAI DevDay.

Availability: Beta, in the ChatGPT desktop app on macOS, for all Pro and Business users. OpenAI says Enterprise is "coming soon." No Windows or mobile availability is stated.

Price: Not stated separately. It is described as available to Pro and Business users with no add-on fee mentioned.

Regions: Not stated.

What it doesn't do: OpenAI's announcement does not say how the plugin captures what is said — whether it joins a meeting as a participant or listens on the device — and does not name which meeting platforms it works with. It states no transcript or recording retention policy, no language coverage, and no CRM write-back. "Personalized summaries" is not defined anywhere in the announcement. And because the beta is macOS-only, a team on Windows cannot standardise on it yet.

What it means for you

SDR — Your calls are short and your notes are mostly qualification answers. Use this for the one thing you habitually lose: the exact words a prospect used about their problem. Lift those phrases out of the summary and into your next email verbatim. Do not let the action items become your next step unchecked — a discovery call produces a lot of polite agreement that is not a commitment.

AE — The stakes are higher for you, because your notes become forecast. An invented action item on a late-stage call is how a deal gets called committed on the strength of something nobody said. Read the summary against your own memory before it goes anywhere, and treat anything about timing, budget or approval as unverified until the buyer puts it in writing.

Manager — This gives you something you have not had: consistent call records across a team without asking anyone to type more. Use it for coaching rather than surveillance, and say which out loud before you use it at all. Decide too whether reps tell customers a summary is being generated — the announcement says nothing about notifying other participants, so that etiquette is yours to set.

RevOps — It is macOS-only in beta, so do not build a process on it yet when half your team cannot run it. What you can do now is decide where these summaries are allowed to land. There is no stated CRM write-back, which means reps will paste summaries into notes fields by hand, and a pasted summary in an activity record is indistinguishable from a rep-written one. Add a field or a convention that marks it before that becomes a data-quality problem you cannot unwind.

What to run

The work that follows a call is turning scattered notes into something the next meeting can use. This prompt does that job on whatever notes you have, the plugin's summary included, and separates what the buyer confirmed from what you inferred — exactly the check an auto-generated action item needs.
