Cowork reached web and mobile for Max subscribers, and its tasks now keep running when every one of your devices is offline.
An agent that only runs while your laptop is open is a tool you have to babysit. One that runs on a schedule and pings your phone when it needs a decision is closer to a colleague — and that is the difference between AI you use and AI you rely on.
Cowork is Anthropic's agentic product: you give it a task, connect it to your files, mail and calendar, and it works through the job rather than answering a single question.
The change here is where it runs. Previously it was tied to a desktop session. Now scheduled tasks execute server-side even with no device online, and Claude can notify your phone when something needs review or approval.
The short version: it now works while you are asleep and tells your phone when it needs you.
Anthropic expanded Claude Cowork to the web at claude.ai and to mobile on iOS and Android on 7 July 2026, in beta, starting with Max plan subscribers.
Availability: Max plan subscribers first; Anthropic stated other plans would follow 'in the coming weeks'.
Status: Beta.
Background execution: Scheduled tasks run even when none of the user's devices are online.
Notifications: Cowork can send notifications to a phone when something is ready for review or approval.
Interface: Chat and Cowork now share a single interface on web and desktop.
Usage data: Anthropic reported that across 1.2 million sessions, more than 90% of Cowork usage was business operations and content creation rather than coding.
What it doesn't do: it is beta and gated to the most expensive consumer tier, so this is not something to roll out to a team this quarter. 'Coming weeks' for other plans is not a date, and the announcement does not describe administrative controls over what an agent can access.
SDR — A standing morning brief on your target accounts, built overnight and waiting on your phone, is the obvious use — and it is the first genuinely hands-off version of pre-call prep.
AE — The approval notification is the important half. Delegating multi-step account work is only safe if you are pulled back in at the decision point, and that is now the designed behaviour.
Manager — Consider what reps are connecting it to. Cowork works by being given access to files, mail and calendar, and that access decision is being made by individuals right now, not by policy.
RevOps — Access scope and audit are the open questions. The announcement covers availability and devices; it does not describe admin controls over what an agent may reach.
An overnight agent is only worth it if the morning output is decision-grade. Specify exactly what you want waiting for you.
