OpenAI’s GPT-6 Astra adds stronger computer use, 1.05M context, and long-horizon work. Here’s where sales teams should test it before switching.
GPT-6 Astra is most relevant where a seller must combine research, documents, CRM context, and several tool actions without losing the original objective. That maps to strategic-account research, RFP and proposal work, opportunity reviews, territory analysis, and governed browser workflows.
API cost is also material: Standard pricing is $10 per million input tokens and $50 per million output tokens, with $1 cached input and $12.50 cache writes. Requests above 272,000 input tokens use higher long-context rates, so the 1.05-million-token window should not be treated as free capacity.
Astra is OpenAI’s new highest-capability model for difficult end-to-end work. It can hold more material, use more tools, and stay oriented through a longer job than a quick drafting model. That does not make it the right default for subject lines, short rewrites, or other routine work where a cheaper model already passes review.
OpenAI introduced GPT-6 Astra on September 3, 2026. Access is rolling out from a limited set of organizations to ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise; Enterprise administrators must enable it because access is off by default at launch.
For sales teams, the relevant changes are stronger computer and browser use, improved handling of long multi-step work, and better production of documents, spreadsheets, and presentations. The API model gpt-6-astra supports a 1.05-million-token context window, up to 128,000 output tokens, structured outputs, web and file search, computer use, MCP, and Skills.
This is a test-first release, not an automatic model migration. OpenAI’s performance figures are vendor-reported, rollout is incomplete, and autonomous CRM or customer-facing actions still require scoped permissions, approval gates, and output verification.
SDRs and BDRs: test Astra on multi-source account briefs and signal-based prospecting plans. Keep routine copy generation on the least expensive model that meets quality standards.
AEs: the strongest candidates are RFP analysis, proposal planning, long account histories, stakeholder synthesis, and meeting-to-document workflows. Verify customer facts and every external action.
Sales leaders: do not set Astra as the team default from launch claims alone. Compare quality, review time, latency, and cost against the current model on the same work.
RevOps and enablement: inventory browser, CRM, file, and messaging permissions before piloting computer use. Enterprise access is off by default, and eligible API customers can use Zero Data Retention.
Run a controlled sales-workflow test: use the same strategic account and the same approved source set in Astra and the team’s current model. Score source accuracy, unsupported claims, missed constraints, tool-action errors, final-document usability, elapsed time, and total cost. Start with a read-only workflow before allowing CRM or customer-facing changes. Use Promptifi’s ChatGPT for Sales page and account-research prompts as the baseline.
