Claude vs Perplexity for Sales Research

Claude vs Perplexity for Sales Research

These two tools have fundamentally different strengths, and understanding the difference makes you a better AI user.

Perplexity: Live Web Research with Citations

Perplexity searches the real-time web and returns cited sources. For account research tasks — "What has [Company] announced in the last 6 months?" or "What are the top G2 complaints about [Competitor]?" — Perplexity is the clear winner. You get live data with source links, which means you can verify what you're reading before putting it in a proposal.

Claude: Analysis and Output Generation

Claude doesn't browse the web by default. But when you give Claude the research (pasted from Perplexity, their website, or your own notes), it's exceptional at analyzing it, building frameworks around it, and generating outputs from it.

The Best Workflow

Use Perplexity to gather the intel. Use Claude to turn that intel into a pre-call brief, a personalized email, or a MEDDIC-aligned deal analysis. These tools are most powerful when used together, not as substitutes.
